As a builder you have probably launched on multiple startup directories, and you have probably run into the same issues with many of them. You launch, you maybe see a spike of traffic, but the directories are largely not busy at all. Launching your site there is mainly for SEO purposes, and getting upvotes, comments or feedback isn't a big part of it.
Launch Streak exists to solve exactly that issue: to keep bringing users back with incentives that drive promotion further.
The one-day problem
A traditional directory generally rewards a single moment. You save up for weeks, you post, and after your first day you might get some upvotes, but then it quickly gets really quiet. The problem is that on directories there are many users just like you, who are only in it for their own launch.
What a streak changes
So I built the board around the thing that compounds. Show up, ship, and your streak grows. Miss the day and it doesn't. That's the whole mechanic, and it does three quiet things:
- It makes consistency legible. A 40-day streak on your profile says more about you than one #1 finish.
- It lowers the stakes of any single launch. If today's post lands flat, there's another day tomorrow, and the streak, not the rank, is what you're protecting.
- It gives the board a reason to exist on a Wednesday. People come back for their own streak and stay to look at everyone else's.
It's still a directory
None of this replaces the basics. Your launch gets a real page, a real URL, upvotes, comments, and a spot on the day it went live. You can still win the day. You just aren't only playing for it.
